Go Wireless @ Your Library...

Connecting your laptop computer to the Allendale Township Library's new wireless Internet access service is easy, especially if you're using the latest operating system for your computer. Once you've connected, you have filtered access to the public Intenet.

Here is the basic information you need to connect:

Configure your network card to use TCP/IP and to obtain an IP address automatically using DHCP.

The SSID, or network name, is allendale.

The network is open and does not require a password. Disable WEP.

Wireless access is compatible with 802.11b and 802.11g.

If you are using Windows XP or Mac OS X, the network should appear automatically. If your operating system asks you if you want to join the allendale network, answer yes.

If you are using another operating system, check with your owner's manual for more details. Using the latest operating system for your computer will provide the best results when working with wireless networking.

Unfortunately, the Allendale Township Library staff can only provide limited assistance with wireless networking problems. However, the library may occasionally hold wireless networking classes. Please inquire at the circulation desk.

Please note: The library filters wireless Internet access to comply with laws designed to protect minors from indecent and obscene content. If you are an adult who does not want your Internet access filtered, we suggest you instead use one of the computers near the circulation desk. All of those computers provide unfiltered Internet access.
